MUKH - Artist Residency Exhibition & Live Performance Showcase
MUKH
Exhibition & Live Performances
Mukh looks wide, sloping, seep and expansive, like a desert landscape, like you, me, we a collective of three, like a Saturday morning
Mukh feels like a slowed heartbeat picking up pace in the face of danger, skin, scales, fur and Earth, like hair and fraying velvet
Mukh tastes like it smells, sweat, hard earned and salty sweet, our noses breathing left, exiting right, day and night, sun and moon, man and woman and everything in between
Mukh sounds like a symphony of our voices, like a sound system in hot summer traffic, like a river in the sun
Mukh (Face) is an exhibition and showcase of live performances, re-conceptualising Bengali identities. Hums, beats, scent and flow, they ta - thai - thai - tat into your subconscious, unmasking and rerooting echoes of mythology from ancestral planes. Face to face with a spontaneous combustion of tradition through a recontextualising and reimagining of ritual practises from Bengal, narrating dream sequences and future folklore.
Mukh is multimedia - an interdisciplinary installation activated through flesh and spirit, exploring interpersonal relationships with ecologies and nature. Puppets, masks and creatures form this contemporary anthology of lullabies, ringing and repeating.
Dissolving hierarchies and notions of gender through mysticism and embodiments of fluidity ~ like an exquisite corpse, transcendental; drifting in a river, reflecting moonlight from its head, sharing paan from its palms.
Step into a milky-way of worldbuilding, an invitation to join the symbiosis of the three artists as they tune their trumpets, a choir of mediums, a symphony of storytelling through elemental depictions of diasporic lore.
